Intro

Hi, welcome to my Biography page.  I created this page as an introduction to who I am and where I am from.  Perhaps it will give you, and possibly me, an idea of where I fit into the to universe...

A Brief History

At around midnight in early December, 1968 a bouncing baby boy was born to Alan and Nancy Hart.  I was the first of three siblings.  Susan followed a little over a year later and then Jennifer about four years after that.

I grew up in a small town just outside of Saint John, New Brunswick Canada.  My parents were one of the first families on the block.  Over time, other families moved in and had children, all within a few years of me.

Like most kids, I rode around on my bike with the local neighborhood kids, went to the local fishing holes, and spent summers at Starlight, our camp on Lake Utopia (a lake just outside of St. George New Brunswick).  We all attended the same schools through High School, although not always in the same classes.

Around the age of eleven, my father brought home a computer, a Commodore PET.  I was immediately drawn to it, mostly to play games.  At first we didn't have a lot of computer games, so my father bought several programming books with programming code for games.  I learned programming by typing the code into the computer.  This laid the foundation for my current career.

When High School graduation time came (1986), I had no idea what I wanted to do for a career.  My father was a Purchasing agent and my Uncles where an Accountant, a Bank Manager, etc.  This lead me to take a Business Administration degree.

After I completed the Business degree (1990), I started looking for work.  It was a bad time as the economy was in a downturn.  I also found that I had no interest in sales or accounting.  My primary interest was in computers.  So, I decided to go back to University to work on a Computer Science degree.

I completed the Computer Science degree (1994) and went on to work for an oil company.  I started out supporting a computerized accounting system for retail convenience stores.  This morphed into supporting and installing computerized point-of-sale systems (cash registers, pump systems, etc).  Eventually I worked my way into the IT department as an Email Administrator.

After working for the oil company for five years (1995 to 2000), the oil company decided to outsource the IT department.  I found work at a high-tech manufacturing firm in the Boston area as a Windows NT Administrator.  Its now four years later.  I'm still working for the same company but I am now working as a Network Administrator.

Since moving to the Boston are I have expanded my interests.  I have taken up golf, tennis, rollerblading, hiking, sea kayaking, skiing, etc.  I have even flown a helicopter (single day course through the Boston Adult Education Center).

I have also been present for two SuperBowl wins for the Patriots and it looks like it will be an exciting RedSox season.  I am looking forward to the coming year and all of the new friends and experiences that it will bring.

About Me

I am a night person.  This may have something to do with me being born at night.  As a kid, I would stay up and watch Godzilla and other late night movies on an old black and white TV in the attic, long after I was supposed to be in bed.  As an adult, I do most of my critical thinking, planning, and decision making at night.

I have always been able to fall asleep in a moving vehicle (as long as I'm not driving, of course).  One of the baby stories that my Mother likes to recount is how she used to put me to sleep.  Whenever I was fussy she would take me for a stroller ride or a car ride and it would put me to sleep.  My sister, Jennifer, and I used to take car trips (Ontario, Florida, etc).  When we switched driving duties, she would get annoyed with me when I would fall asleep in the passenger seat.  This irks her and, to this day, she still can't fall asleep in a moving vehicle.

I enjoy sports, but not extreme sports.  I am much more coordinated as an adult, then as a kid, and now have the ability to quickly pick up and play new sports.  For example, I tried skiing when I was a teenager, it was an unmitigated disaster.  I tried skiing again three years ago and picked it up fairly quickly.  After only one ski lesson I was skiing the intermediate trails.  I now enjoy skiing, golf, roller blading, tennis, sea kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking.  I'm also planning on taking up racquetball.

Who am I, really...

My life is a life of change.  My career demands it, my curiosity triggers it, and my education prepared me for it.  Change comes with opportunities, both good and bad.  The vast majority of change in my life has been for the good, causing personal and professional growth.

I'm a son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, computer professional, digital photographer, golfer, tennis player, skier, fighter (if computer gaming counts...), and a lover (actually, a single guy looking for love).

So, who am I?  I'm me and I wouldn't want to be anyone else...
